Tulu is a rich language. But compared to other languages, Tulu has lost its charm slightly, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said.

He was addressing the gatheirng at Kemthooru Tulu Nataka Prashasti (award) distribution programme, organised by Tulu Koota Udupi, at MGM College here, on Sunday.

Sorake said youth had a responsibility to bring back the glory of Tulu language by conserving Tulu culture and traditions.

He said inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution will go a long way in sustaining the language. There is a need to spread the fragrance of Tulu language to different parts of the country. He said late Kemthoory Doddanna Shetty had contributed immensely for the growth of Tulu language and theatre.

Shetty had tried to set right the society through his plays, he added.

Tulu Koota President V G Shetty, Manipal Academy of General Education Administrator Dr H Shantharam, entrepreneurs Purushotham Shetty and others were present on the occasion.

The book ‘Baggana Bhagya’ by Gangadhar Kidiyooru was released on the occasion.

Sangama Team of Manipal was felicitated with Kemthooru Tulu Nataka Prashasthi on the occasion.
