Congress unveils strategy for Gujarat

Last Updated 24 March 2017, 19:25 IST
The Opposition Congress in Gujarat on Friday announced its ticket distribution strategy for the state Assembly polls slated for the year-end.

“We have decided to give 50% tickets to the youth and at least one woman candidate per taluka. We will also not repeat candidates who have lost more than twice and those who have not prepared their booth-level worker list properly,” Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki said.

The Congress has also decided not to change the seats of winnable as well as sitting legislators. The decision comes on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi met MPs from the state in New Delhi.

“The decision to not let some leaders change their constituencies can act as a dampener for those who are seeking a safer seat in the forthcoming polls,” a senior Congressman said.
