A 'Deewar' between SP-BSP alliance and BJP

Though a formal announcement of the much-talked about electoral alliance between one time arch rivals Samajwadi Party (SP) and BSP to take on the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls was yet to be made, theatrics have already started playing out on the streets of the state capital.

And nothing can, perhaps, be more theatrical than the Bollywood movies.

In between the SP-BSP alliance and the BJP, Deewar, a 1975 Hindi crime-drama film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor made a quiet entry with the appearance of hoardings containing one of the most iconic dialogues of the movie.

The hoardings put up by an SP leader say "BJP ke paas CBI hai, Hamare paas gathbandhan hai" (BJP has CBI, we have grand alliance).

The lines seem to be taken from the movie 'Deewar'. In the movie, Amitabh, who played the role of a smuggler, tells his younger brother Shashi Kapoor, a police inspector, that he has all the riches in the world while Shashi has nothing.

"Mere paas maa hai" (I have my mother), Shashi Kapoor replies. In the movie, the mother had refused to live with Amitabh since he was a criminal.

Significantly, the hoardings appeared after reports that Akhilesh might be quizzed by CBI in the mining scam. After the reports, Akhilesh had also said that he had 'alliance' while BJP had CBI.

BSP supremo Mayawati had lent support to Akhilesh after the reports and had asked him not to worry.
