The Jharkhand High Court on Friday granted bail to former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad in one of the fodder scam cases. However, the RJD chief, who is behind the bars since December 2017, will remain incarcerated as he is yet to get bail in the third fodder scam case.

Lalu was convicted and sentenced in three fodder scam cases related to fraudulent withdrawal from government treasuries in Dumka, Deogarh and Chaibasa, all part of the undivided Bihar.

While the Jharkhand HC had already granted him bail in Deogarh case, the High Court on Friday granted bail to Lalu in Chaibasa case as he has already served half of the jail sentence, a condition mandatory for securing bail.

Once Lalu gets bail in Dumka case too, he will be set free.

Suffering from multiple ailments after being jailed in Ranchi’s Hotwar Jail, Lalu was eventually shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for proper medical treatment. He is suffering from multiple ailments including hypertension, chronic kidney disease and hypertrophy of the prostate.
