Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Narayan Rane on Saturday said that his party would not need Shiv Sena's help in future.

"The BJP would not need Shiv Sena's help," Rane told reporters in his home district of Sindhudurg.

The statement of Rane, the Konkan strongman and BJP's Rajya Sabha member comes on the eve of visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the state.

Rane accused Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray of shedding Hindutva to ally with the Congress-NCP combine.

"He gave up Hindutva for personal ambition for Chief Minister's post," he said.

According to him, Thackeray had not been able to handle the Covid-19 crisis. "He talks of washing hands and wearing masks," he said.

Commenting on the Congress, he said: ".... It will never be able to be No 1 party in the country and the state in near future."

On the 2022 polls of the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, Rane asserted that the next Mumbai Mayor would be from the BJP.

"The Gujarati community will stand by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah," he said referring to Shiv Sena's attempts to woo the Gujarati community.

On any proposal of an alliance with the Raj Thackeray-led MNS, he said it is for them to take a call.
