KCR may announce assembly dissolution today

A crucial cabinet meeting on Sunday afternoon, chaired by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao could pave the way for early elections for the Telangana Assembly.

Rao will be addressing a mega-public meeting in Kongarakalan immediately after the meeting.

The “Pragathi Nivedana Sabha” touted to be the biggest ever with over 25 lakh people attending from all the 31 districts of the state is believed to be the stage where KCR will declare the decision to dissolve the assembly paving the way for early elections or at least drop strong indications for such a move. However, none of the party leaders are coming forward to clarify the issue.

State IT minister K Taraka Rama Rao, the son of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao speaking to reporters has said that the huge public meeting would trigger political activity not only in Telangana but also in the country. “Both the national parties BJP and Congress are keenly observing our moves and are ready to do their own meetings in the state. That triggers the political activity”, he said.

He also predicted that neither the BJP nor the Congress would be in a position to form the government on their own at the Centre in 2019. He made it clear that the TRS is keen to form a non-BJP and non-Congress Federal Front at the national level. The party expects a very huge turnout on Sunday.

Meanwhile, preparations are complete for the mega show. Farmers from all over the state have started arriving at the venue close to the outer ring road. A traffic advisory has been issued asking people not to venture on to the ORR from 10 am to 10 pm to avoid traffic snarls. Food and drinking water arrangements are made for the party workers at the venue. However, all the ambulances and vehicles attending emergencies were exempted. The TRS party has already declared that it will foot the toll fee.

However, senior Congress leader Marri Sasidhar Reddy has said that there is no chance of an early election in the state. He said that he has met election commissioner OP Rawat in New Delhi and discussed on the possibilities of conducting the elections earlier than its original schedule in 2019. He said that the issue of adding 7 blocks to AP after bifurcation requires a constitutional amendment if the elections are to be conducted.
