The foundation stone of the Maharashtra Judicial Academy and Indian Mediation Centre was laid by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishanan in December 2007.

The academy will be the training ground for judges who are inducted into subordinate judiciary, official sources said.

Though the academy is primarily meant for judicial officers from Maharashtra, judges from others states can also enroll for the courses and workshops.

Besides legal experts, those from diverse fields such as management and psychology would be brought as visiting lecturers.

The first batch of 50 judicial officers will start the training on the inaugural day itself, the sources said.
