You may soon be able to get a driving licence without a test.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification inviting public comments on a system where if one learns to drive at an accredited driver training centres, they may be exempt from test to obtain a driver's licence.

To impart quality driver training to citizens, the ministry has proposed certain requirements to be met and procedures to be followed by such centres. Moreover, if one successfully completes driver training from such centres, they will be exempted from the requirement of a driving test while applying for a driving licence, according to the notification.

A PIB press release adds that the step will also aid the transport industry to have specially-trained drivers. Specially-trained drivers will improve their efficiency and reduce road accidents.
