The gap between girls and boys is 11% first year and 12.6% in the second year.

Girls top in AP

Similar results were witnessed in the sibling state of Andhra Pradesh, where the results were declared late last week. While girls achieved a 75% pass percentage, boys recorded 69 % in the second year. In the first year, girls secured 64% and boys 56%. In AP, a total of 5,07,302 students appeared for the first year and 5,10,298 for the second year exam.

Congratulating the girl students, Balala Hakkula Sangham (Child Rights Association) president Achyuta Rao said that girls stood ahead of boys in both the Telugu speaking states, braving gender inequality. “Girls face serious challenges like lack of encouragement by family, child marriage threats and the necessity to do domestic chores, besides health and nutrition issues,” he said.

The child rights group is also running a campaign on the social media calling upon the students not to slip into depression if they did not fare well in the exams. “Failure is not your mistake. It is the circumstances that lead to it. You have plenty of opportunities,” Rao said in a statement.
