The Supreme Court on Thursday asked Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy to amend his petition seeking contempt action against a Singapore company, allegedly controlled by Karthi Chidambaram, son of Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

A bench of Justices G S Singhvi and  K S Radhakrishnan told Swamy, an intervenor, in the PIL filed in the apex court in 2G cases, to include the name of Indian company and its managing director who owned Singaporean venture Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd, which had filed a defamation suit against him there, for publication of some material on internet.
The High Court of Singapore had issued summons against Swamy for October 19 in the defamation suit.

“I submit that such defamation suits will lead to chilling others from taking up issues of corruption of persons highly placed in government, and thus will or tend to interfere with the administration of justice,” Swamy said.

“Incidentally on the same alleged defamation, Advantage India, the parent holding Indian company of the plaintiff in Singapore had issued a legal notice to me in May 2012. This notice followed a public disclosure in a media conference on April 26 this year, of a letter written by me to the prime minister on the Aircel-Maxis deal which is before this court,” he  added.

The matter of the alleged defamation case filed by Advantage had come up also in the Rajya Sabha, wherein P Chidamabaram, the second alleged contemnor, and father of the first contemnor (Karthi), had informed the Parliament of the defamation suit, he said.
