Under attack from all quarters, Tamil Nadu Government has pulled out a controversial advertisement from cinema theatres across the state.

In the advertisement Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami is projected as 'God'.

In the new advertisements to “boast of the government's achievements” in creation of job opportunities for youngsters, a young girl with special needs is seen asking the priest in a temple to perform pooja in the name of Palanisami.

The advertisement that were being aired at the start of a movie stoked a controversy with political parties calling it the “heights of sycophancy” and demanded its immediate pull out from the theatres.

“It was brought to Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami's notice and the advertisements have now been removed from theatres. It is not being played at the start of the movie. It has been pulled out,” Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar told reporters here on Tuesday.

The Edappadi administration was roasted on Twitter and Facebook by social media users for the “God” advertisement by releasing thousands of memes and videos making fun of the commercial.
