Tamachan shuts out Pranjala

Second-seeded Pranjala Yadlapalli of India was knocked out 6-1, 6-3 by fifth-seeded Tamachan Momkoonthod of Thailand in the girls’ singles quarterfinals of the Asian Closed Junior Championships at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex on Thursday.

Tamachan now plays another Indian in Mihika Yadav for a place in the final. Mumbai girl Mihika continued her impressive run in tournament and rallied to beat compatriot Simran Kaur Sethi 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.

It was 14-year-old’s second win over Simran, 17, in as many meetings.  
Another Indian girl to enter the semifinals was fourth-seeded Ojasvinee Singh, who got the better of eighth-seeded Yukina Saigo of Japan 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Ojasvinee, however, is now up against top seed Kamonwan Buayam of Thailand who packed off sixth-seeded Claire Yoonkee Choi Spackman of Hong Kong 6-0, 6-2.

The Indian campaign came to an end in the boys’ category as seventh-seeded Sumit Nagal went down to third-seeded Yunseong Chung of Korea 6-4, 6-2.
Results (quarterfinals): Boys: 1-Duck Hee Lee (Kor) bt 5-Sora Fukuda (Jpn) 7-5, 7-6 (7-1); 4-Weiqiang Zheng (Chn) bt 6-Makoto Ochi (Jpn) 6-2, 6-3; 3-Yunseong Chung (Kor) bt 7-Sumit Nagal (Ind) 6-4, 6-2; 2-Ken Onishi (Jpn) bt 8-Teeradon Tortrakul (Tha)  6-3, 0-6, 6-3.

Girls: 1-Kamonwan Buayam (Tha) bt 6-Claire Yoonkee Choi Spackman (Hkg) 6-0, 6-2; 4-Ojasvinee Singh (Ind) bt 8-Yukina Saigo (Jpn) 7-6 (7-5), 6-1; Mihika Yadav (Ind) bt Simran Kaur Sethi (Ind) 2-6, 7-5, 6-0; 5-Tamachan Momkoonthod (Tha)bt  2-Pranjala Yadlapalli (Ind) 6-1, 6-3.
