17 fishermen stranded mid-sea as two boats develop snag

As many as 17 crew members and fishermen of two fishing boats are stranded in the middle of the Arabian Sea after the boats developed technical snags near Kaup and Bhatkal and are awaiting rescue.

Fishing boat Vishwas has nine fishermen on board while another vessel Lakshmi Janardhan has eight members.

Udupi Fisheries department Deputy Director Parshwanath said that the Coast Guard assistance was sought to rescue the fishermen on board.

Malpe Fishermen Association president Sathish Kunder said the sea is rough.

Fishermen from Malpe have left to rescue the fishermen stranded in mid-sea.

Boat capsizes

In another incident, a fishing boat, Hanuma Sanidhya, owned by Shakuntala N Karkera, has capsized at Kodibengre near Malpe on Sunday.

In her complaint to Coastal Security Police, the owner of the boat stated that she had incurred a loss of Rs 9 lakh.

All three fishermen on board were rescued by fishing boats Bhavathya and Lakshmi Pandari.
