Three persons of a family from Karnataka drowned at the Kappad beach in Kozhikode district on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Indudhar (24), his father Venkatanarayana (50) and uncle R V Venkatesh (51).

Police said the deceased were part of a group of 20 tourists from Mysuru, who were on vacation in Kozhikode. “Rough waves had hit Indudhar and seeing him drowning in the sea, his father and uncle also entered the sea in an attempt to save him, leading to their deaths as well,” an official at the Koyilandy police station told Deccan Herald.

The incident occurred at about 4.30 pm. Preliminary reports said the group was in an area of the beach that is not frequented by tourists. The bodies are kept at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Police said members of the tourist group were staying back in Kozhikode to coordinate efforts to send the bodies to Mysuru on Saturday.
