Akash tablets for engg, science students

The government seems to have struck the right chord with the younger population with a slew of measures aimed at augmenting education and related services.

With one of the highest outlay among all the sectors, the state has also managed to get ahead on the IT bandwagon with an attractive offer of tablets for students. Total budgetary outlay is Rs 18, 666 crore

*First year engineering and science students of government colleges, who have scored above 60 per cent, will be provided with Aakash tablets with the aim of promoting creativity, enhancing knowledge and improving problem solving capacities.

Broadband connectivity with the help of Karnataka State Wide Area Network and Local Area Network facilities will be extended to all government colleges and polytechnics.

* A sum of Rs 93.95 crore allocated for 1.47 lakh SCs/STs students who have secured more than 60 per cent marks. Aakash tablets will be supplied in the future in lieu for cash for these students. 

* Internet facilities to be extended to all government high schools and PU colleges and children libraries to be established in all district headquarters.  

*Change in the Cadre and Recruitment rules for recruitment into Directorate of State Education Research and Training, District Institute for Education and Training and Certificate of Teaching in English’s to attract experienced and talented people.

* Tie up with the World Economic Forum to train around 10,000 students in higher learning of international standards to help them to achieve global excellence in the fields of business, industry and trade. 

* ‘Hosa Hejje,’ the government program to remove social and gender barriers in education to be extended to government colleges and polytechnics.
