Investigation has revealed that the threat recieved by Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Alok Kumar recently was made from an inmate of the Central Prison at Hindalga here.

Death sentence convict, Shah Jahan, is said to have made the call to the IGP. A mobile phone and sim card have been seized from him. His body warrant will be sought from the court and investigation will be conducted regarding the source of the phone and sim card, ACP (market sub-division) Vinay Gaonkar said.

Kumar received the call at around 9.30 pm on April 21 when he was at home. The caller who identified himself as M S Ali Khan, a naxalite, claimed himself to be a ‘grenade and RDX specialist’ and threatened that he will ‘see him’ (IGP) this year. An SMS was also received by the top cop from the same number, the IGP’s personal assistant Sanjeev Sangannar said in a complaint filed with the APMC police.

Alok Kumar said threat calls were not new to him and prison inmates make such calls under frustration as they do not have other work. Alok Kumar had earlier worked as the IGP of Anti-Naxal Force, headquarted at Karkala in Udupi district.
