Bus shelter in Chikkamagaluru cries for attention

The state of a bus shelter at Karthikere, the door to Chikkamagaluru district, is pathetic.

The bus shelter on Chikkamagaluru-Belur Road cries for immediate attention not also for the reason that it is located on a state highway, it is all set to be upgraded to national highway.

In reality, it has been reduced to urinal, with the public peeing in the immediate vicinity, forcing the passengers to scamper off in disgust. The shelter that dates back to a decade, was earlier covered by a zinc sheet. Eight years ago, the sheet was  replaced by a permanent cement roof.

Taking into consideration the public needs, a shop was built adjacent to the shelter and it was rented to a hair cutting saloon. But the barber shut shop  and the bus shelter turned into abandoned spot.

As a result, the door vanished. Weeds and shrubs have occupied the space. The roof leaks when it rains. Cleanliness has taken a backseat.

Strangely, the local body is oblivious towards its maintenance, so also the state highway authorities, complain the locals.
