'Water meters will be installed in Chikkamagaluru'

CMC President K S Pushparaj has said that meters will be installed to water connections of households and commercial buildings from Ward number 1 to 3, on an experimental basis in Chikkamagaluru.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, he said the meters will be installed by a firm from Bengaluru. Citizens will be given an opportunity to file objections to the installation of water meters. Minister for Municipal Administration has expressed displeasure over poor revenue collection by the CMC. He has given time till January to improve the situation. The survey on commercial buildings have been completed. The survey of households will be taken up. Revenue collection at Andechara, Azad Circle and Hanumanthappa Circle will be taken up. All the illegal water connection can be regularised by paying a sum of Rs 3240. For commercial buildings, a sum of Rs 5,500 should be paid for regularising illegal water connections.

“There are 24,000 households and 16,000 water connections in the CMC limits. Those who fail to pay tax will not be given UGD connections. The licenses of 14 poultry stalls have been renewed. If 21 poultry stall owners fail to maintain cleanliness, then such stalls will be closed down,” he warned.

The CMC President said that those who dump garbage in public places will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. If anyone found dumping garbage on road, then public can send their photos through WhatsApp to 9686541414.

On mushrooming of illegal huts and shops near Uppali canal, he said that notices have been issued to 38 persons. If they fail to furnish documents to ascertain their right over the land, then they will have to vacate the land, he added.

The work on asphaltation of road will be taken up from December 1. The concreting of IG and MG Road will be taken up from January 1.
