Hassan: Heated arguments were witnessed during the Zilla Panchayat meeting between the JD(S) and the Congress members, over the elections to the various standing committees, in Hassan, on Friday.

Minister Revanna’s wife Bhavani Revanna was irked when ZP member and Congress leader A Manju’s son Manthar Gowda questioned, “Did we not give Chief Minister’s post to the JD(S), though you had won only 37 seats?"

Bhavani retorted, “Our leaders did not come to your doorsteps. Let us not discuss it now.”

There was a commotion when Manthar Gowda recommended the names of Ravi of Doddamagga to be a member of Agriculture and Industries standing committee and S P Revanna for Finance standing committee.

However, Arsikere MLA K L Shivalingegowda intervened and said that the Congress has been given 10 seats, including the president. "JD(S) would decide on the constitution of the standing committees," he said.

To which, Manthar Gowda said, “Even though the JD(S) won only 37 seats, we spared the CM's post. But, you are hesitating to give the standing committee posts.”

Earlier, five people each were elected unanimously for seven standing committees, including the post of president and vice president. While JD(S) got 25, Congress was given 10 posts.
