Govt determined to develop Kudige sports school: Minister

In this direction he said that a synthetic track costing about Rs 2 crore will be provided to the school to emphasis on atheltic sports.

Speaking after inaugurating the indoor stadium in the school and laying the foundation for the construction of hostels on Friday, he said that government has the aim of developing Kudige sports School as the model school in the State.
“Sports schools will be opened in Belgaum, Chithradurga and Gadag on similar lines as that of Kudige Sports School,” he said and added that development of Madikeri District stadium is also a major plan of the government.

Deputy Speaker K G Bopaiah said that the indoor stadium should be named after former CM R Gundurao, who was the force behind setting up of the sports school.
“Appointment of Assistant Director for the Sports Department and development of Swimming pool in Madikeri are the two works that need to be done immediately,” he added.

Delivering the keynote address, Sports Department Secretary I M Vittalmurthy said that a sum of Rs 9 crore has been utilised in Kodagu district of the Rs 100 crore funds that was released by Central government for sports development in the State.
MLA M P Appachuranjan presided over the programme. ZP President V M Vijaya, MLC S G Medappa, ZP Education Standing Committee President Manu Muthappa, ZP Standing Committee for Social Justice President S N Rajarao, Sports Director Shivanajaiah, Joint Director Y R Kantharaj, Kudige Gram Panchayat President T P Hameed, Kudumangalur GP President K P Krishna, Sports School Head teacher Kunti Bopaiah and others were present.
