Deputy Commissioner Dr Richard Vincent D’Souza on Wednesday directed officials to screen children suffering from anemia in tribal hamlets.

Presiding over the meeting, the deputy commissioner instructed district health officer Dr O R Srirangappa to screen such children on priority and provide necessary health care to them.

Earlier, the district health officer brought it to the notice of deputy commissioner that he has already instructed officials to take up screening of 9,931 tribals in the age group of six to 21 years. Preparations will be made to screen the target group at the divisional level including Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts, he said.

Health committee member S N Raja Rao alleged that there are loopholes in the process of identifying anemic children in the age group of six to 21 years as Asha volunteers have not visited the hamlets while the statistics prepared later is not adequate.

Rao also suggested taking precautionary measures in the wake of increase in epidemic at Basavanahalli, Byadagotta, Soolebhavi, Sajjalli and other tribal hamlets.

Rao has been nominated as the committee member for Somwarpet taluk while G K Ramu is tasked with Virajpet taluk and Kumar for Madikeri taluk.
