Sports club complains of poor work on Shidlaghatta stadium

Last Updated 31 May 2009, 17:42 IST

The building built at the cost of Rs 50 lakh is dilapidated due to lack of maintenance and the stone slabs at spectators’ galleries have also been damaged.

The building has turned shelter for illegal activities, they alleged. The Club pointed the fingers at the Youth Service and Sports Department officials for the poor state of the stadium.

A sum of Rs 7 lakh has been released by the Zilla Panchayat, Youth Service and Sports Department for the stadium construction including 400 metre track. The club members alleged that the contractors had decided to lay only 200 metre track till the club opposed. However, they said, though repair works have been taken up now following their protest again against the substandard work, the contractors are using low quality material for the track including garbage mud.

The Public Works Department authorities have also turned blind eye, the club alleged. The basketball court has been laid throwing all scientific norms to the wind. Besides kho-kho and kabaddi grounds have not yet been completed, the members complained.

The Club President Shankar, Vice-President Balakrishna, and members Murali, Jaya and Shivaji, the Government Employee’s Association Sports Secretary Narasimhamurthy and others have threatened to take up agitation if the things are not set right and works are completed at the earliest.
