A truck driver, who was caught dumping waste on NH 66 near Nittur, was slapped a fine by officials from health department of Udupi city municipal council on Wednesday.
CMC Senior Health Inspector Shashirekha and other officials have been conducting regular visits to different areas vulnerable to dumping of garbage.
Udupi Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, who was travelling near Nittur, witnessed
the CMC officials in action
and took the truck driver to task.
He also warned the truck driver of initiating tougher measures if he was found repeating the mistake.
The ADC then instructed the CMC health department officials to penalise the offender under stringent laws.
