H B Walikar, the Vice Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad, who was jailed last Monday on corruption charges, has been suspended. A notice to this effect was sent from the Governor’s office on Thursday evening.
KUD in-charge Vice Chancellor S S Hugar confirmed that the order on Walikar’s suspension had reached the university. Walikar’s four-year term as vice chancellor ended on Friday, but the Governor suspended him a day before the completion of his term. Walikar was arrested by the Lokayukta police under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Meantime, the higher education department suspended the university’s Evaluation (Registrar) H T Pote, replacing him with Prof Basavanna of the Department of Geology. Dr Pote is one of the accused in the KUD irregularities case.
