11-year-old Kannada poetess creates a milestone

S G Gayatri has emerged as a poetess at an age of 11, with her first collection of poems ‘Bogase Tumbida Bhava Tunturu’.

She is a student of Government Lower Primary School in Chikkakolattur village near Shanivarasanthe and is the daughter of Ganesh and Shobha of the village.

Gayatri got interested in poetry when she was in class five. After she excelled in the cluster-level literary competition, her school headmaster H B Chandrashekhar encouraged her to write more. Her poem on rain had won the first prize. Since then, there was no looking back for Gayatri.

With the support of her parents and teachers, she penned more poems on her school, society and nature.

Her poem at the poets’ meet in the 18th district Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Nidtha village in 2020, won a huge appreciation from literary enthusiasts.

Gayatri thanks resource persons John Paul, headmaster Chandrashekhar and teacher Lakshmi.

‘Bogase Tumbida Bhava Tunturu’, her first collection of poems comprises 30 poems. She said that she records her observations and creates poems out of them. She enjoys nature and her surroundings inspire her a lot.
