Awareness created about tuberculosis through street play

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day was observed by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department and district TB elimination centre at Cauvery Kala Kshetra in Madikeri on Wednesday.

During a formal programme, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr K Mohan said that in case of symptoms like cough, phlegm and fever during the night, one must immediately visit the nearest public health centre and get their TB test done.

“All must join hands in the fight against TB. The department has organised awareness programmes in various parts of the district,” he said.

District TB officer Dr Anand said that a decade ago, the elimination of TB was tough. But, there is no such situation today.

The disease can be prevented at an initial level. There is an effective medication available. Every TB patient will be provided with an assistance of Rs 500 per month and Rs 500 for those who detect the disease, he added.

Raju and troupe, artistes from Zilla Vidya Sagara Kalavedike, performed a skit to create awareness against Tuberculosis (TB).

Prior to the stage function, an awareness rally was taken out from Bal Bhavan to the programme venue, through Ajjamada Devaiah Circle, Mangerira Muttanna Circle and General Thimayya Circle.

Kodagu district RCH officer Dr S Gopinath, TB nodal officer Dr Kamath, Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KoIMS) Infectionologist Dr Mahesh and others were present.
