PM interacts with Mudhol entrepreneur on Mudra scheme

An entrepreneur from Mudhol in the district is excited after he got a rare chance to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a video conference on Mudra yojana.

Manjunath Khamitkar who is running Sri Sainath Enterprises mobile shop at Ranna Circle in Mudhol, shared his experiences with Modi during the video conference held at the district administration block here on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the video conference with the select six beneficiaries of Mudra Yojana in various States in the country and heard their experiences about the scheme. Manjunath Khamitkar had got the chance from the state to share his views.

As per the instruction of the Prime Minister’s Office, the officials had made arrangements at the district administration block here on Tuesday for the video conference and Manjunath was invited to take part in it.

Manjunath, who hails from Gadag, runs mobile phone business in Mudhol for the past 15 years. Initially, he started his business on small scale. Later, he expanded it by availing of Rs 13-lakh loan under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana from Syndicate Bank.

Manjunath spoke with Modi in Hindi for four minutes during the video conference and he shared with the prime minister various issues including his economic background, details of loans availed of by him, repaying method, family details and expenditure.

Speaking to DH, Manjunath said, he also explained to the prime minister that he has given jobs to four youths at his shop and has assisted three persons to get loans under Mudra Yojana for starting own business. The Prime Minister suggested him to inform others about the benefits of Mudra Yojana, he stated.

He said: “Ten days back, someone called me up, stating that they were speaking from the Prime Minister’s Office and Modi wanted to speak with me about the Mudra Yojana. Initially, I thought the person was joking. Later, a Syndicate Bank officer from Bagalkot called me up and informed me about it. I am very happy for getting an opportunity to speak to the prime minister. My friends and family members too are excited after hearing the news”, he stated.

About Mudra

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana is a new scheme under Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency for developing and refinancing activities in micro units.

The scheme was announced while presenting the budget for the 2016 financial year.

The main purpose of the scheme is to provide funds to non-corporate small business sectors and to encourage entrepreneurship and job creation.
