BJP president Amit Shah will visit Bengaluru on July 28 to discuss the political scenario in Karnataka with the state leaders and review preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.

This will be Shah’s first visit to the state capital after the Assembly polls. The BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 104 seats, falling short of the magic number of 113 by nine.

According to party sources, Shah has instructed the state leadership to prepare a comprehensive report on the political developments since the polls. The various morchas in the party have been asked to prepare reports on their functioning. During his day-long stay on July 28, Shah is expected to unveil a roadmap for the state unit on two aspects. To take on the coalition government and also the party’s approach to the Lok Sabha polls.

The sources said Shah will take first-hand information from state leaders on the reasons for the party not being able to cross the majority mark. A session on the party’s political statergy for Bengaluru is also on the cards.

The state leaders will meet on July 21 as a precursor to Shah’s visit. Four teams will tour the state from July 22 to highlight “failures” of the coalition government in fulling its poll promises to the electorate. The teams will also highlight the “lack of clarity” in the government loan waiver scheme, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa, also the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said.

Modi rallies

In August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two to three rallies in the state as part of a warm-up exercise for the Lok Sabha polls. While the dates and venues are to be finalised, it is likely that he will address a convention in Chikkodi and a farmers’ rally in Haveri. The state leaders have sought that Modi address one rally in Old Mysuru region too. The rallies are likely some time after August 15.
