Veterinary Council of India (VCI) has accorded permanent recognition to veterinary colleges in Shimoga and Hassan, Animal Husbandry Minister T B Jayachandra announced on Monday.

Jayachandra said the permanent recognition to the Shimoga veterinary college will be with retrospective effect from September 24, 2011, the recognition for the Hassan college will be in effect from September 24, 2012.

The VCI had refused recognition to the two colleges citing lack of infrastructure. Jayachandra said the State government had released Rs 137 crore and Rs 131 crore for Shimoga and Hassan colleges respectively for infrastructure development.
