Security at Lokayukta office gets technology boost

One more layer of security has been added at the office of the Lokayukta. Under the ‘visitor management system,’ each visitor’s photo will be taken along with personal details and phone number. The system was introduced on Friday.

A senior official with the Lokayukta said a private company was assigned the work of installation of the software required for the system.

“After the incident of stabbing of the Lokayukta inside his chamber, two new metal detectors were installed at the entrance and outside the chamber of the Lokayukta. As a continued measure in that direction, the new system has been implemented,’’ the official said.

On Friday, the private firm which installed the device conducted a training for police personnel deputed at the
entrance of the Lokayukta office to use the system. The
staff at the security division will take the photograph of the visitor.

The details, including the mobile number of the visitor and official he or she is visiting, will be collected. These details, along with the photo, will be printed and inserted into a ID card tag. The visitor has to return the temporary visitor’s card at the front desk while leaving.

“The data of the visitor with all the details will be stored electronically after entering the exit time, once the card is returned. This will help us maintain a data of visitors,’’ the official said.

Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty told DH that the officials had
been asked to ensure that a hassle-free system was in place.

“It is an advanced security measure. I have asked the staff not to harass the visitors, instead speak to them gently and explain to them the new system. During the second visit, the information will be generated automatically once the mobile number is entered,’’ he said.
