A 40-year-old tribal man was killed in a tiger attack at Gundumetlu village in the taluk during the early hours of Monday.

With this, two persons have lost their lives in a month in DB Kuppe GP limits to a suspected man-eater.

The incident occurred when Chinnappa, the victim, along with his brother, was collecting firewood in the forest. The big cat attacked Chinnappa from behind and dragged him for about 100 metres inside the forest.

By the time the villagers could arrive at the spot, Chinnappa had bled to death.

On December 24, 2018, Madhu (28), a youth from Manimole tribal hamlet, near here, was found dead. His head and parts of his body were found in the forests. Madhu had gone inside the forest on December 23, 2018, to bring firewood. A day later his body was found.

The tiger on the prowl has created panic among the villagers.

Following the plea by the tribals living on forest fringe, the forest department officials have decided to trap the man-eater tiger.

The officials have assured of taking measures, such as digging a trench to check wild animals from entering human habitats.

HD Kote tahsildar Manjunath, who visited the spot, expressed his displeasure against the Forest department for the delay in taking measures to trap the animal.

The officer assured the family members of the deceased of a compensation of Rs 5 lakh.
