Shivamogga woman dies of KFD, toll reaches 10

A 36-year old woman died of Kyasanur Forest Disease also known as Monkey Fever, in the wee hours of Saturday, at KMC Hospital, Manipal.

The victim has been identified as Poornima, a resident of Aralagodu in Sagar taluk. She complained of fever on February 27 and she was shifted to Manipal hospital
on the same day. She was tested positive for KFD in Manipal.

Speaking to DH, District Health Officer Dr Rajesh Suragihalli said she had been suffering from Addison’s disease for the past several years. “She was taken to Manipal hospital on February 27 for treatment. She was treated for Kyasanur Forest Disease. But she did not respond as she had Addison’s disease,” the district health officer said.

With this, the KFD death toll in the district has reached 10.

KFD fear grips villages

With KFD fear gripping the villages in Shivamogga, funeral ceremony of those who died of Monkey Fever is attended by a handful of people.

Earlier, people of the entire village used to attend the funeral in case of death of a villager. But now, only family members are attending it.
