NPP emerges as largest party but misses out on majority mark as counting ends
Counting of votes in the Meghalaya Assembly elections 2023 drew to a close on Thursday evening, with the NPP emerging as the largest party in the state, despite missing out on the majority mark.
While the NPP bagged 26 seats, the UDP won in 11.
The TMC and Congress won 5 seats each, while the Voice of the People Party (VPP) bagged 4.
The BJP, PDF, and HSPDP won 2 seats each, while two Independent candidates bagged two constituencies.

Meghalaya CM and NPP chief Conrad Sangma decisively defeated BJP's Bernard Marak in the South Tura, winning the seat by a margin of 5,016 votes, the ECI declared on Thursday evening.

Shakliar Warjri of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) defeatedBrolding Nongsiej of the UDP by a margin of 2,353 votes in the Mawthadraishan constituency, the ECI declared.
BJP yet to open account as NPP keep winning seats
As of 1.30 pm, the NPP had secured victories inJowai,Nartiang, Rangsakona, and Rongara Siju.
The UDP had won inMairang, Mowkaiaw, the INC inGambegre and the TMCRajabala.
The BJP had yet to open its account in the hill-state.
